Taper notes: This was an interesting night at the Howlin' Wolf -- lots of special guests rotating in and out. Frankly, we went to this show for the Global Noize set (which they promoted by announcing Billy Martin, DJ Logic, Oteil Burbridge, Karl Denson, Topaz, and others -- a set with a lot of potential, having an A-List set of musicians all playing outside of their elements), but the opener wound up being this Russell and Friends set, which had some of the same guests but many others. Frankly, I felt completely satisifed that I had seen a great show after this set, and the Global Noize set was gravy. In fact, I think I even enjoyed this set more than the Global Noize set, as it was a lot funkier, whereas the GN set was more jazzy. Either way you'll get to decide for yourself as I'm going to post both for you to listen to.
